The mental health and well-being of our students and educators must be prioritized. Our learning environment should promote holistic approach to education that cares for the whole individual—mind, body, and spirit.
It takes a village to raise a child, and building strong schools means engaging parents, teachers, students, and community members in meaningful dialogue. I believe in the power of working together to create positive, lasting change in our educational system. Any changes reflect the voices and values of the families and students we serve.
Strong partnerships between parents and schools are essential for student success. I am committed to increasing parental involvement through open communication, accessible decision-making processes, and inclusive parent-teacher partnerships. Together, we can ensure that parents are valued contributors to their children's education.
Our teachers are the backbone of our education system, and their professional growth is essential to student success. I will advocate for increased funding and opportunities for teachers' professional development, mentorship programs, and resources that help them stay at the forefront of educational best practices. A well-supported teacher is a better teacher for our students.
Our schools must lead by example in promoting sustainability. I will champion initiatives that reduce our environmental footprint, including energy-efficient buildings, sustainable waste management practices, and education that empowers students to become environmental stewards. By teaching our children the importance of sustainability, we can prepare them to tackle the environmental challenges of the future.
Excellence in education is about more than just academic achievement. It’s about nurturing well-rounded individuals who are equipped to contribute to their communities. I will work tirelessly to ensure our schools provide an education that promotes both academic and personal growth.
Every student deserves to feel empowered to achieve their full potential. By providing the right tools, resources, and support, we can create an environment where students feel confident, capable, and ready to succeed.
In today’s digital age, technology is both an essential tool and a challenge for educators and students alike. I will advocate for the integration of cutting-edge technology in classrooms while ensuring students develop critical digital literacy skills. This includes not only understanding how to use technology but how to navigate the digital world responsibly and safely.
Students are at the heart of our education system, and they deserve a say in the decisions that affect their lives. I will work to empower students to take on leadership roles in shaping their schools by creating platforms for them to express their ideas and concerns. When students have a voice, they are more engaged and invested in their education.
Ensuring the safety of our students is non-negotiable. I will work to implement policies and practices that create safe, inclusive, and respectful environments. This includes physical safety measures, bullying prevention programs, and crisis response strategies, so that every student feels secure in their learning environment.
Educational equity requires addressing the disparities that exist in academic achievement among different groups of students. I will push for data-driven strategies to close the achievement gap, particularly for students from underserved communities, by ensuring targeted resources and support are in place to help every child succeed.
Dear Regina Residents,
My name is Tolu Folarin (pronounced "Toe-loo Foh-lah-reen"), and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Regina Public School Board Trustee for Subdivision 4 in the upcoming election on November 13, 2024.
My lifelong commitment to advocating for social justice, equity, and quality education drives my belief that our community deserves strong leadership that is not only passionate but deeply informed by lived experiences and a commitment to creating positive change in our schools.
My journey in Canada began at the age of 15 when I immigrated to this great country to pursue my education at the University of Regina. Since then, I have earned both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Social Work, and I have committed myself to contributing to the well-being of the community that welcomed me with open arms. My career has allowed me to serve individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life for all residents, and I am particularly passionate about ensuring that every child has access to quality education.
As a mother of three, I bring a personal understanding of the challenges and aspirations of families in our community. I understand the importance of addressing root concerns of issues and creating supportive learning environments where all students can thrive. I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our schools must not only provide excellent education but also foster an environment where diversity is celebrated, and all students feel heard and supported.
In addition to my work in the field of social services, I have served on multiple boards for various organizations and co-founded initiatives that support communities in various capacities. These experiences have equipped me with a strong understanding of governance, collaboration, and the power of community-driven change.
I have also taken the time to do my due diligence and have gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by the schools in Subdivision 4.
Through thorough research and engagement with community members, I am fully aware of the socio-economic factors, mental health concerns, and the need for greater inclusivity across our schools. Institutions like Campus Regina Public, FW Johnson Collegiate, Henry Braun School, Judge Bryant School, Dr. George Ferguson School, Glen Elm Community School, Imperial Community School, and McDermid Community School each reflect distinct needs and strengths, driven by the diversity of their student bodies and surrounding neighborhoods.
If elected, I will leverage my experience and dedication to addressing the distinct needs of each school in Subdivision 4. I have comprehensive plans and suggestions on how to address these issues, channel these strengths and foster positive change, ensuring that all students, parents, and educators have the support they need to thrive. I will work diligently to ensure that our schools reflect the rich diversity of our community and that every student receives the resources and support they need to succeed. I will be a voice for parents, teachers, and students, and I am committed to creating a brighter future for our children by making decisions that prioritize their education and well-being.
With all these being said, I understand that meaningful change requires collaboration with the community and key stakeholders. That’s why I am reaching out to you. Together, we can achieve meaningful, community-driven change. I look forward to working with you to create solutions tailored to the specific needs of our schools and the communities they serve.
I am eager to bring these plans to the table and am confident that, together, we can make a significant impact.
I strongly believe that investing in education is investing in our community, and I kindly ask for your support. Whether by sharing my vision with others, endorsing my campaign, or simply casting your vote on November 13, your backing would mean the world to me and will be invaluable in shaping a brighter future for our schools and children.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to the possibility of working together to ensure that our educational system serves every child in our community.
I am available for a chat via phone call or coffee. It'd be a pleasure to meet with you to discuss the future of our beloved city's school system.
